The Westering Hills

Eat Real Food Challenge, Day 10

Breakfast: corn grits with butter, coffee with cream.

Lunch: had a business lunch out at a restaurant. Luckily, it was a fancy seafood restaurant down by the waterfront with plenty of freshly-made menu items to choose from. I ended up ordering a Dungeness crab/mixed greens/avocado/grapefruit salad with a basil viniagrette, and a cup of clam chowder. It wasn’t until I was at the bottom of the cup that I realized there were tiny bits of bacon in the chowder. Drat and duh!

Dinner: had the bit of leftover black-refried bean mix all by itself with a spoon (’cuz I was hungry!) and some of the barley salad. Popcorn for dessert.

Why is bacon bad? My great grandma would totally have recognized bacon as food. :)

Speaking of food, you should know that I cannot stop thinking about Polynesian food and it is ALL YOUR FAULT.

You ate at Etta’s, didn’t you? I went there yesterady with my mom and she got the same salad, hee! I had the tuna sashimi salad, which I have EVERY DAMN TIME I set foot in Etta’s. I’ll be old and poor and will be spare changing on the corner to get me some sashimi salad - I can see it now.

Schnozz, bacon is not bad. Bacon is very good, if you are a meat eater. Which I am not anymore. I stopped eating all beef, poultry, and pig products as of January 12th. You may recall that I avoided all the meat on the puupuu platter at the Luau when you were visiting! So that’s why the bacon made me grumbly. As for Polynesian, there is a place called Terry’s Polynesian Room in St. Louis. I can’t tell if it’s a bar or a restaurant, however. Go forth and seek ye the flaming puupuu platter!

Jenny, actually, we ate at the Bell Street Diner! I’ve never been to Etta’s before. Maybe they stole Etta’s salad idea. I would not be surprised. Tuna sashima salad sounds amazing!

I messed up today–I ate a sugar cookie that turned out to be nothing but sweetened chemicals with sprinkles on top. I seriously could never have guessed that sugar cookies could be made of anything but sugar and flour. Oh well. I cleanse with my fancy dinner tonight at the fancy restaurant for my fancy Valentine’s gift. Happy Valentine’s Day!
